Two of our authors-in-waiting, Sophie and Sarah, busy working on their Harry Potter prequel at the Writer’s room at Fairycroft House. Overseeing them in the background is moaning Mertle, a beautiful piece of artwork created by local Art students.
The last Writer’s Room session of the year was a very special night indeed. We were delighted to have been joined by the children’s author, J S Landor. It was fascination hearing about the incredible research that went into the book ‘The Mirror of Pharos’, which has been compared to JK Rowling’s early ‘Harry Potter’ books. Each Creative Walden writer was gifted a copy of the novel.

It has been a fantastic experience running the Writer’s Room, with the fantastic help of Lee Dorrington, Roy Mason and Chelsea Peach. The feedback has been great with many writer’s expressing their joy at finding somewhere they can express their creativeness without the short timescales and pressure usually prevalent at School.
We have a wonderful team of writers and hope to welcome some more in the new year. Keep a look out for notification of Writer’s Room 2018 with it’s new day and time.
A town is not buildings, shops and church steeples,
A town is the buzz, its lifeblood’s the people,
A school is but nothing without children’s voices,
For a town that provides all of life’s choices,
Team players, dancers, writers and filmmakers,
Drums and guitars and skateboard risk takers,
Some charge along, others quiet contemplation,
A burning desire for their chosen vocation,
Discard your consoles, your tablets and phones,
And say after me ‘I will not be a clone’,
And I will do battle with ridicule and boredom
For I am the voice of Young Saffron Walden.
